Once I bleached my hair and It turned orange, so I decided I'd go for a dark brown. I put that on and my hair turned reddish/purple. It was disgusting.
If I put a brown over my orangy-ish hair, would it turn a red color?
It should go darker orangey-reddy-brown.
A girl in my science class did just that..it looks quite nice, although I preferred how vibrant it was before.

more than likely yes. if you are looking to tone down the brassiness of your hair use an "ash" brown the ash will nutralize the orange in your hair.

Every month I dye my hair two colors. Brown and white/blond.
Each time I do it, I first dye my whole head brown, then add the blond parts. Each and every time I've dyed it, the brown covers the blond completely.
If you dye your red/orange hair brown, and use good dye, it will just be brown.

probably not, by orang-ish i guess u are talking about a strawberry blond,if u want ur hair darker red,try a Clairol nice and easy in a red color u like if it's the first time u r coloring and not trying to cover resistant gray, if u want to get rid of the red, don't use a ash color(it will leave brassy tones) get a natural tone. i color my hair evey month a dark mahogany red(as close to my natural color as they make OTC). ck out clarol .com for colors they have.
