Okay, my sister and I are thinking about gettin our hair dyed. We both have dark brown hair..n i saw this ad on glamour magazine, theres girl withbeautiful auburn red hair, i want my hair to be just like hers so i was wondering if I take the magazine photo with me to a salon, would they have the exact color or not? For your sisters hair color, I think you're talking about black blue. It's a common color you can get in simple places like grocery stores. I would say don't waste the money going to a salon and buy box die and do it at home, unless you do have the money to spend.

For your hair, if you go to a good salon, they'll usually have a big book kind of thing with all different samples of hair colors with codes for them to mix. If you bring in the picture, it would be close, but you may not get the exact color. Also, if the color you want is lighter than your natural color, they may have to bleach your hair slightly before coloring which would be pricey.

to correct Jill R below me, blue is actually the hardest color to keep IN your hair because it only comes in unnatural circumstances. I was told this when i wanted to dye my hair blue, but for it to stay in well, your hair should be completely white. Black blue eventually fades into just black- this from personal experience and just common sense.

let me suggest that you try to get in a salon to get a consultation. auburn/red hair is a difficult one to match to a picture, and the color will fade if not done properly. now your sister, black, with blue tones. yeah she should go too. sounds like it might be a cellophane over the black. but don't try it yourself. you need a professional to do it.

They will probably have the color or can mix two colors to get very close. Also, for your sister, yes they will have the color. However, black and red are the hardest colors to get out of your hair, black especially b/c you can't really lighten it up with out damaging your hair and red you can really only go darker on it.

Ok, so I have red hair right now. I want to add black and (some) blonde to it but I can't figure out how I want it to be done. I'm debating between highlighting or minking it to perfection, or doing the red on top black on bottom route. Black on the bottom, Red on top, and some chunky blonde just through the top layer. The blonde would need to bo platinum - red and platinum is FABULOUS, it'll most likely take a couple times but it's so worth it.

Bottom black, Red top, chunk of blonde over the bangs (hopefully you have side swept bangs haha), and another chunk of blonde on the back of the head. Now to explain....if you're looking at the top of your head the blonde on the bangs would form a triangle the point being the middle of your head. Another triangle of blonde is formed by the blonde in the back of your head, the poing of which being in the middle of your head meeting up with the point of the front triangle.

black hair color is the hardest to get rid of.

if you really want to change your color you NEED to go to a salon and have ALL color completely stripped from your hair, meaning your hair wont have any pigment left in it. after you do that you are free to color it any color you want and shouldnt have too many problems. i wopuldnt suggest a red though because it is the second hardest color to get out :)

having your hair color stripped is hard on your hair so if you do it be sure to keep your hair really hydrated afterward.

It probably won't...black hair dye is pretty strong, and once you dye it black, there's really no turning back. You have to bo 100% positive that you want it like that. I would suggest making time to go to the salon, or if you wanted to use the red dye, bleach your hair first and then dye it, but that takes a lot of time and can really damage your hair.

I have had this problem before. Don't use red because the black wont take the dye and your roots will, thus causing you to have a red "crown." It would look silly.

Loreal has this stuff called preference (I think it is this brand) Anyways, they have hair dye made for people who already dye their hair and wish to go lighter. Look on the box. Get the stuff that is specifically for people with dark hair.

the only way to really get rid of black hair color is to "bleach it out." this really should be done at a salon.

The red may just give you a severely red tint of black hair. It may also end up worse then the black it self.

I'm naturally a reddish/golden light brunette, a level 6/7. I want to be either about a level 8 blonde, or completely different - red - not ginger, more cherry, like one of Feria's power reds.

I have blue eyes, fair skin. I don't know if I'm a 'warm' or a 'cool,' though photoshopping bright red hair onto myself looks good. I was blonde as a child, and thanks to my heritage I think I'd make a good blonde.

Anyways. If I go blonde at home, since I do want to change my colour and can't afford a salon, how would I go about doing this? To get a level 8 blonde, do I use a level 10 dye, since I'm about a level 6/7 anyways? I'm hesitant to bleach beforehand because not only am I afraid of damage, I'm afraid of bleaching my roots as well to get the desired colour every few weeks, the colour overlapping and damaging/looking bad.

So can I go blonde in one step, and with what?

i think you should go a deep, deep red. that'll look awesome with your skin and eyes.

the reason i didn't recommend blonde is because red pigments are incredibly hard to get rid of.. even if you dye it blonde now, the red will show up eventually.

No matter what product you use, going lighter is bleaching ( taking out the color). When you go lighter with the hair you are taking out the color so it is hard on your hair no matter what. You need to prep your hair for it and be able to afford to use good products to take care of it after. I really can't tell you what level to use because all products work so differently on the hair. If you want to go 2 shades lighter make sure the color you choose has a 20 volume developer which will allow you to lift the hair 2-3 levels of lift. If you want no damage to the hair the best thing is to stay on your same level and just change the tone like to cherry red as you stated. When you change only the tone of the color or go darker you are actually adding pigment instead of pulling it out so it is not hard on the hair.

I went to Walmart and bought a hair color called "born to be blonde", I think. Anyway, it worked great! I had to leave it on for 45 minutes, which was the maximum time. I'll probably get another box to make even blonder. It's for brunette's who want to go blonde. It says it on the box that it's safe for brown hair.

For you I think the color that would me most suitable is Egyptian Plum by Clairol Natural Instincts. It'll give you a nice darkish reddish..and a little purplish look. If you want you can google it and see how the color will look.

these types of cream are very bad for your skin. Most likely you are having sensitivity issues with it. Rinse off in cool water by taking a cool bath. If you have aloe vera apply that on it. Hydrocortisol cream might work too but I think it would be best to just leave the red spots alone. You dont want anything else to chemically react with what has seeped into your skin because it could cause you to break out more. If it is painful or itchy call your doc. If its just red and not sensitive, wait a while and see if it dissapears on its own. good luck. Also dont use the hair removal cream anymore if its hurting your skin!

I got my hair highlighted yesterday and it was suppose to be brown, which is my natural color, with blonde highlights. It turned out mostly red with a little bit of blonde and i HATED it. I went and got Garnier Nutrisse hair color that was brown and I am going to dye it. I know this works extremley well because I have used it numerous times before but I wanted to know if it will still turn out okay if its put on top of red hair. It wont turn out any funky colors will it?

go back to the salon and ask them to drab your hair. they will do it for free (since they screwed up the first time and did not do it then) and you will get the color you wanted. then ask why they did not do it in the first place since red was clearly not what you asked for. then see if you can get your money back by throwing a snit fit. if all else fails cry till they help you. then tell all your friends not to go there since they are clearly idiots who should not be doing hair. highlight should not have turned your whole head red. maybe the blonde part but not the whole head. or you can get drabber from a beauty supply place and do it yourself (go easy and follow all directions if you use to much your hair will have an ashy look to it). but if you dye your hair then you will have wasted all the money for the highlights. and yes if you hair is red now it will probably come out redder still after dying it plus you do not want to damage your hair by too much processing.

It depends on the condition of your hair, but experience has taught me that two months is plenty of time between coloring. If your hair is damaged and/or dry, do some at-home deep conditioning treatments before you get it colored. I really like Queen Helene's cholesterol deep conditioning mask (available at Sally's Beauty Supply for about $3).

Since red dye tends to fade quicker, don't shampoo your hair for a day or two after you get it dyed. And use that conditioning mask every other week to help your hair hold the color. But don't use hot oil treatments! They cause hair color to fade even faster!

Usually genetics comes down to family history not just the parents. Example me and my wife both have dark hair, although I had blonde hair when I was younger I don't now. I've tried curling them with a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, it doesn't look right (maybe it's too big?). Any products/techniques you could suggest? My hair thick, course, and naturally straight.

I would suggest useing rollers. If you wet your hair a little and roll your hair in the sponge rollers it should come out the way you want it. Also when your hair drys scrunch it up with some moose.

hmm well i think you should use some mouse and scrunch it first then use the curling iron you have or you could go get a smaller one and take really thin peices and curl them

cut the developer by 1/2 and add water. more color will be deposited into the hair and your natural shade won't be lifted too much.

the developer is too strong. it's lifting your natural color so much that when the color fades - IT ALL FADES. red color molecules are also the largest - therefore when it fades it does so at a rate that seems not normal.

It sounds like your color is too harsh and it's lifting it too much. You can add 1/4 distilled or mineral water to the peroxide.If you use to high of a volume of peroxide the color will only partially coat the hair.By adding water you will weaken the peroxide from 20 volume to 10 volume. So, however much peroxide is in the bottle add 1/4 distilled water accordingly. Find yourself a milder shampoo if you can. try finesse. it's the best OTC product I know of.

Semi-permanent hair dye?

I currnetly have dark brown hair. A few weeks ago I used Manic Panic bright red hair dye cream on my hair. It still looked brown but with a red hue. It said on the jar that it lasts 5-40 shampoos. I want to bleach my hair but I know I shouldn't use it over semi-permanent dye. What's the best way to get rid of ALL the wash out dye from my hair?

sadly i believe you have to let it wear off. i made the mistake of putting that crap called wash out color and it has yet to wash out months later.... was supposed to wash out in 20 washes.. i wash mine everyday ...lol my hairdresser told me there isnt a such thing. ask your hair dresser.

My hair was black before so i had to bleach it first, i thought that the red would come out like an auburny color but it didn't! i now want to go over it with a mahogany copper brown permanent dye. I thought that since it's a permanent dye it would go over, but my mom who used to be a cosmotologist said that it could go over, but it might make the semi-permanent color lock in because of the permanent one or it could turn my hair a really ugly green color. help! i've been searching for an answer to my question forever now, and nothing! what should i do?

Bleaching it would have stripped out your natural colour and dried out your hair. I have had a similar problem when got streaks done professionally a number of years ago. Best advice is to keep having dee[p conditioning treatments, regular hair trims and keep putting through a semi permanent colour to protect it . Also use leave in hair moisturisers.

If ur hair is long you can get it cut short and let the damage grow out.

I would go with the #1- Brown hair with blonde highlights only because since you hav darker features, your hair shoulnd't be 'Oh look at me! I don't look like I belong!' go back to the salon and tell them you dont want hot pink hair...all they have to do is apply the red over the pink again and it'll be fine.

it turned pink because they had to bleach the black out of the highlights, and then put red over it. well, they apparently left the bleach on too long, and it got too light, so when they put the red on, it turned pink instead. its easy to fix...applying the same red pigment again will work. just dont attempt it yourself. we use special dye's for this sort of thing. call the salon back, explain your not happy, and they should do it for free.

Well, you have a few options...these tricks worked for me anyway.

You could go and buy Head and Shoulders dandruff shampoo, but if you want the black dye in still, don't use it or the black will go away as well. If you want all of the dye out, use this shampoo once a day for about two weeks to a month (it took me about two months)...but make sure that you condition it very well!

You can just let your hair grow out; get it trimmed every 6-8 weeks and condition your hair a lot. Just let your hair grow out and stop colouring it.

Hair dresser. They'll know what to do, but it can be very pricey and damaging.

That's all you can do, but I would stick to just letting your hair grow out because it's healthier. Good luck.

i've used henna before, with out vinegar, and it doesnt affect my hair color, but it does make my hair softer and shinier than any reg. conditioner.

yea, you use white vinegar. you can also use lemon juice, that's what i use when i dye my hair w/henna. With the lemon juice, you can buy the kind in the bottle or get it directly from the lemon, i'd recommend the bottle just because of convenience wise and it's easier to measure out and whatnot. but yes, white vinegar, but anything acidic really will work. cause what it does is release the dyes from the henna. Rinse it with cold water! I used to have them same problem then one day we ran out of hot water so I rinsed my hair with icy cold water and it looked great when it dried!

The cold water seals your hair cuticle and leaves it shiny!

I had the same delimma growing up. No matter what anyone tells you, do NOT use kool - aid. It stains your hair. The only thing I found was Sun - In or lemon juice. You use them both the same way. Word of caution though, since peroxide gave you that red tint, your hair probably pulls red; meaning that you won't necessarily go lighter, maybe more to the auburn color. Ask your hair dresser next time you go have a trim what she thinks.

There's this product that most salons carry, and I've also seen it at Fred Meyers. Its called something called "ARTree" or something like that, and you use it after shampooing/conditioning. It adds a hit of color to your hair, but its not dye, and the color builds gradually over time. If you want your hair to be more red, I would suggest ARTree's "Cherry Bark". Its really pretty. This product is kind of spendy but it works really good.

its easy for people to jest at your question, but when I remember back to my school days and how anyone who was ginger was bullied merciliously I can understand your thinking. My best friend has the most beautiful ginger curls and her 7 year daughter has exactly the same bright ginger, amazing ringlets. She stands out from anyone else in the crowd and I think that makes her unique. Doesnt everyone want to stand out from the crowd? Red is gorgeous %26amp; different.

It's really hard to say. My boyfriend has 2 daughters from a previous marriage. He has dark brown hair w/ (as weird as it is) a red mustache and beard and his ex has brown hair. go back to the salon and tell them you dont want hot pink hair...all they have to do is apply the red over the pink again and it'll be fine.

it turned pink because they had to bleach the black out of the highlights, and then put red over it. well, they apparently left the bleach on too long, and it got too light, so when they put the red on, it turned pink instead. its easy to fix...applying the same red pigment again will work. just dont attempt it yourself. we use special dye's for this sort of thing. call the salon back, explain your not happy, and they should do it for free.

Well, you have a few options...these tricks worked for me anyway.

You could go and buy Head and Shoulders dandruff shampoo, but if you want the black dye in still, don't use it or the black will go away as well. If you want all of the dye out, use this shampoo once a day for about two weeks to a month (it took me about two months)...but make sure that you condition it very well!

You can just let your hair grow out; get it trimmed every 6-8 weeks and condition your hair a lot. Just let your hair grow out and stop colouring it.

Hair dresser. They'll know what to do, but it can be very pricey and damaging.

That's all you can do, but I would stick to just letting your hair grow out because it's healthier. Good luck.

these types of cream are very bad for your skin. Most likely you are having sensitivity issues with it. Rinse off in cool water by taking a cool bath. If you have aloe vera apply that on it. Hydrocortisol cream might work too but I think it would be best to just leave the red spots alone. You dont want anything else to chemically react with what has seeped into your skin because it could cause you to break out more. If it is painful or itchy call your doc. If its just red and not sensitive, wait a while and see if it dissapears on its own. good luck. Also dont use the hair removal cream anymore if its hurting your skin!
