Can hair change colors?

I was born with pure red hair as a baby then it turned blonde at around 3 or 4. I completely forgot about having red hair until I was 12 years old. I realized there were some red strands growing back in and I thought I was mutating or something. Now, I'm 14 with more red than back then.... can someone explain?

Can hair change colors?

Yes, hair can change color with age. My children had nearly white hair until the age of 5 when it became more dark blonde. By 14 they both had light brown hair. Now at 20 my son has medium brown hair, and my 24 year old daughter has auburn brown hair.

Many children are born with one colour hair which changes as they get older. Some are born blonde, stay that colour for a few years and then the colour darkens to brown etc.

Your hair sounds like is is a lovely colour, don't worry.

I was always blonde but got darker as i got older. Now i have red in my hair as well as a bit of grey.

I expected the grey but the red is a complete surprise!

i was pure blonde then went mousey brown

My hair was white as snow as a baby now it is a honey blonde (I'm 25). I actually think it is turning more of a beige blonde now... Geez I can't keep up LOL. So yes darling hair can change color!

Also I think red hair changes more then any other hair colour. My cousin and friend both have red hair and since early child hood it has changed a lot. My cousin has sandy blonde hair now, while my friend has a mousey brown with only bits of red in it.

When I was 3-4 years of age I had blonde hair, then at about 5 years of age it turned to red, then at about 10 years of age it turned to auburn, then at 15 years of age it turned to brown. It stayed there for many many years, but now it is white again. I've read on the web that hair color is the result of pigmentation due to the presence of the chemicals melalia and phaeonolanin. If you have darker hair you have more melalia in your hair; if you have more phaeonolanin in your hair the lighter your hair color.

My daughter's hair was quite red when she was born, shaded into blonde, and now is almost brunette (such that she dyes it desperate-woman-copper now.) My hair was dark, almost black, turned brown, and at 15, began to go gray. Looks as if you have the best of both worlds. Go with it.

It can change colour, a lot of kids are born with blonde hair, but it changes as they get older.

Also I've heard of an actor who dyed his hair from blonde to red for the new Pride and Prejudice movie, but later he found that it kept growing red, rather than blonde.

Don't worry about it though, red is awesome! Guys love girls with red hair :)

The colour of the hair at birth is usually a good indication of the adult colour! Example daughter born with black hair, fair haired during early childhood then true black at the age of 13. It's normal for the hair to change colour in white races and the ages vary greatly. Usually by early adulthood the hair is it's natural colour so yours is becoming red! If it's not to your liking you can always go lighter or darker. As you get older though your skin tone changes so try not to go to extremes! I've never found an expanation other than it's just one of those things that happen!

True red hair is gorgeous and I wouldn't change it! Much nicer than the mousey brown I had till I went grey!
