Because black hair needs bleach...and if you bleach it at home...you'll probably damage it...and then have to pay to get it cut...and buy an expensive conditioner...etc.

You might be able to go red though...cause black hair actually has a reddish tint...You might want to buy the brightest red you can find though because it probably will barely show...And even if it does...red tones down on your hair after a while.

is your hair naturally black? if so, i have naturally dark brown hair and i have tried a million different things to lighten it. out of the 3 times i've tried, the best i have ever gotten it was when i finally scrapped thecheap route, boxes, beauty schools, etc and went to a decent salon and spent over a hundred dollars. you can probably get your hair to a faint auburn with certain hair dye boxes that are meant for naturally dark hair that have peroxides in it to lighten. they do make those now, but they are pretty tough on your hair...

well as a hairstylist i have to say that if your hair is black..it is the hardest color to get out..you cannot bleach it at home..or use a color remover at home..your best bet is call your stylist..if you dont have one then do some research..dont pick the first name in your yellow pages..but look around..make appointments for consultation (this is free) dont be afraid to ask questions..and ask if you can look at a portfolio with pictures of their own work..and you decide if they are best for the job...The reason for this is..that you do not want to do a home job on your hair because you will damage your hair..and you'll have patches of yellow-orange and red tones that you dont want in your hair...believe me this is opposite of what your wanting..and when all is done..and you've damaged your hair you will have to go to a salon which you should have done in the begining..because now a stylist is going to have to fix or cut off what you did wrong...
